Pirates Don’t Change Diapers by Melinda Long, illustrated by David Shannon

Cover Image

Kids love reading about pirates, and kids will love this story, too.  Jeremy Jacob, while babysitting his baby sister, is paid a visit by a group of treasure-hunting pirates.   They have come to get Jeremy to help them find a treasure, but end up helping him babysit.  Or trying to help him babysit.  It turns out that pirates make terrible nannies.  They have trouble changing diapers, and get facefuls of strained spinich, thanks to baby Bonney Anne.  Then the baby eats the treasure map!  But there is a happy ending to this great read-aloud, never fret.  The illustrations are classic David Shannon, with big eyed, big toothed characters done in bright colors, and lots of sly humor and little comic touches that kids will pick up on and love.  A fun read-aloud for pirate loves and non-pirate lovers alike, you should definitely check this one out!
