Smash! Mash! Crash! There Goes the Trash! by Barbara Odanaka

Cover Image

An energetic and enthusiastic look at trash collecting brings that topic alive for kids, who will appreciate both the subject and the rhythmic, rhyming language.  The trash collectors are smiling, happy pigs, with “massive muscles” who are “oh so strong”.  The trash trucks are bright green with red eyes and yellow teeth, and even tongues, and are clearly happy to “load it UP and smash it DOWN”, it being, of course, trash, from stinky diapers and coffee grounds to rotten eggs and apple cores.   The illustrations, by Ohio artist Will Hillenbrand, are irresistably fun and bright, and the text rolls easily off the tongue, making this a fabulous book for adults to share and kids to read on their own.  Check this one out!
