book ideas for holiday gifts

Books make perfect gifts for kids for the holidays.  I’ll be giving several Goosebumps and Lemony Snicket books to the kid in my house this Christmas!

For some picture book gifting ideas for the children you know, check the several reviews on this blog.  All of those were picture books that I thought would be fun for kids to read and have read to them.  I have also checked with some end-of-the-year “best of” lists, and come up with a list of books that would make great gifts for your preschoolers and beginning readers this holiday season.  All titles are linked to the Barnes and Noble website so that you can see the book itself and read summaries and reviews of each title.  Of course, nothing beats holding a book in your own hands, so be sure to visit a local bookstore and find some titles on your own, as well.  Happy gifting!

And of course, remember that you can check out most of these books at your Lane Library, as well!

Once Upon a Banana by Jennifer Armstrong, Beach by Elisha Cooper, The Cow Who Clucked by Ohio author Denise Fleming, Wolves by Emily Gravett, Duck and Goose by Tad Hills

Houndsley and Catina by James Howe, Five For a Little One by Chris Raschka, Ballet of the Elephants by Leda Schubert, So Sleepy Story by Uri Shulevitz, Butterfly Eyes by Joyce Sidman, Flotsam by David Wiesner

Mommy? by Arthur Yorinks and Maurice Sendak, Max’s Words by Kate Banks, Sally Jean, the Bicycle Queen by Cari Best, But Excuse Me That is My Book by Lauren Child, The Princess and the Pea by Lauren Child, How High Can A Dinosaur Count? by Valorie Fisher

Lilly’s Big Day by Kevin Henkes, Library Lion by Michelle Knudson, Superhero ABC by Bob McLeod, The Little Red Hen by Jerry Pinkney, Not Afraid of Dogs by Susanna Pitzer, Clip-Clop by Nicola Smee

Have fun reading and giving this holiday season!
