Flotsam by David Wiesner

David Wiesner is an award winning author/illustrator, and has created another fabulous book. Flotsam is a wordless peek at one boy’s surprising adventures at the beach, as he finds a camera and begins to take photographs. This book gives you and your child much to discuss with each page, and will also give your child an opportunity to create his or her own story, jumpstarting their imagination with wonderful illustrations.

I teach 7th grade and read picture books to my kids on occasion to express certain literary themes or devices. I haven’t stuck with a set cannon of works though. I do believe Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli, to be the best book written for a young teen audience, simply bc it’s the best writing I’ve come across. Check out my blog at, http://underdogs.wordpress.com , for some satire on pretty much anything and everything.
